#516 A Call to Peace
What joy in the moment when the strength and might of God worked “in Christ, when He raised him from the dead,” and what joy in eternity when He “seated him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named…” Ephesians 1:19-21
The resurrection of Christ gives us unspeakable joy also. This joy includes a full assurance of Divine power to fulfill every promise, and the peace that comes from knowing this.
2 Corinthians 1:20-22
Before Jesus ascended, he repeated to his followers his special legacy of peace.
“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:19-21
There is a lesson we can draw from this scenario for times of fear and uncertainty in our lives. Sometimes we lock the door to our hearts out of fear, trying to protect ourselves.
Like the disciples, we may be troubled and in need of insight and comfort.
Using this incident as a lesson for life, Jesus comes to us, despite the locked doors, with the comforting words, Peace be with you. Again his prayer on our behalf is Peace be with you, as He gives us the insight to recognize who he really is in our experience, that he himself is with us, reminding us of his hands and his side, the great sacrifice he willingly gave, prompted by deep dimensions of Divine Love. Joy fills our hearts. He assures us again of our calling and our purpose, helping us to look beyond the present dilemmas and fears.
We can sense Jesus saying: My prayer for you is Peace. Be at peace, amid whatever your present circumstance. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14.27
Jesus CHOSE the Cup, chose to lay down his life, and He chooses to take life up again, the fruitage from partaking of that Cup, through his faithful use of resurrection power first for the blessing his followers and then for the blessing of all our human family. John 10:17-18 Philippians 2:8-11; John 12:32
What joy and peace to know that the same power that raised our Lord Jesus from the dead is at work in our lives, figuratively seated with him in the heavenlies. Ephesians 1:17-19, 20-23; 2:5-10
