Agreeing With God

#321 Agreeing With God Luke 1.38
My Dad who has Alzheimer’s has had a sudden decline in mobility and cognitive ability. I ask for your prayers on his and my Mom’s behalf. My Dad is very unsteady on his feet. Sometimes there appears to be no connection between his brain and his legs. His speech has changed. His words are more confused and it is harder for him to understand. There is suspicion of a mini stroke, but nothing showed up on any of the tests.
My Mom is getting a Hospice Under Dementia Evaluation very soon. We are not sure this is an end of life situation, but Hospice under Dementia supplies care for patients with forms of dementia that are beyond a certain point of decline, allowing them to remain in their home. She can no longer care for him on her own, and until nurses are put in place different family members are stepping in to stay with them through the night.
My sister described Dad when he woke up at 4 this morning. He sang the phrase “I need Thee every hour” in a very loud voice, then prayed, “O Father You have been so good to me.” Then sang the phrase “I need Thee every hour” again, and then fell into a deep and loud snore because he fell asleep again. She commented that it was blessed silence when he fell asleep because his singing was so loud, but it was beautiful to see his heart.
A few weeks ago I emailed my Dad a note with the scriptures below. My Mom emailed me in response:
Joy: LOOK AT HOW DAD MIS-READ THE SCRIPTURE.
WONDERFUL!!! THANKS AGAIN!
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.” Isaiah 43:1-2
“For the LORD God helps me,
Therefore I am not disgraced; DAD SAID: I WILL NOT DISAGREE.
Therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know I shall not be ashamed.” Isaiah 50:7
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
I emailed back: Mom, this makes me cry!
I weep out of gratitude and conviction of God speaking to me through Dad’s way of thinking.
God uses his Alzheimer’s to bless us! --Joy
This reminds me to seek to hear God’s voice through what it is I resist.
Like Mary, strengthen us to declare: “I belong to the Lord, body and soul;” (Phillips)
“be it done to me according to your word.” (NASB) Luke 1:38
Let us agree with God by accepting and trusting through every turn of circumstance.
For the LORD God helps me, therefore I will not disagree.
