#403 All My Springs are in You Psalm 87.7
My husband and I were together in Mexico for the last week of my mother in law’s life.
She was being treated for cancer at a facility there, with good progress and then complications arising. Ben has been with her there a little over a month. She passed away on Monday, April 25 at 3:15 am. We flew back home on Wednesday the 27th. This has been a heart rending experience as well as a great privilege to be with her. We are so grateful. The Lord used Mom to teach us so much; our hearts have been stretched thru this experience and thru this loss. With the privilege of Him stretching our hearts comes both joy and heartache. He is providing more room for us to love.
Over and over while we were there we were reminded to rely on the LORD. It was a roller coaster of uncertainty even among the Doctors: “She can recover because she is strong;” “She cannot recover because there are too many issues.” “Many designs are in a man’s mind, but it is the LORD’s plan that is accomplished.” Proverbs 19:21 Tenakh It took Faith one day at a time, knowing that we don’t know anything.
You alone Lord, are the source of truth and perspective.
“ I never lead you to do something without equipping you for the task.”
“But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge…” Psalm 141:8
There were so many things I needed to let go of, and one thing I needed to hold on to:
“All my springs are in You.” Psalm 87:7
My joy is not in circumstance, or the temporary outcomes of life.
My joy is in YOU IN the circumstance, and YOU IN the outcome.
“How blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee; in whose heart are the highways to Zion!
Passing though the valley of Baca, they make it a spring, The early rain also covers it with blessings.
They go from strength to strength, every one of them appears before God in Zion.” Psalm 84:5-7 NASB
The map and the road to Zion is in our heart because Jesus, the way, the truth and the life abides there.
One thought on these verses is that the road to Zion travels through a very dry valley, the valley of Baca, or valley of weeping. But the pilgrims on this journey made this bitter valley a well:
— Or, wells; that is, they dig divers little pits or wells in it for their relief. This trouble they willingly undertook, rather than to neglect the opportunity of going up to Jerusalem at their solemn times. And possibly they did this, not only for themselves, but for the benefit of other travelers who came after them; whereby they showed both their piety and charity. The rain also filleth the pools — God recompenseth their diligence in making pits, or cisterns, with his blessing, sending rain wherewith they may be filled, and the thirsty travelers refreshed. It may be proper to inform the reader, that the words may be rendered more agreeably to the Hebrew text, yea, or also pools, or cisterns; that is, they make pools or cisterns, which the rain filleth, or, may fill; which may receive and keep the rain that God sendeth for the refreshment of these travelers… Benson Commentary
So as we make the effort to make room to receive and store up His sustaining water of truth, He is pleased to give it to us. I continue to find the need to ‘dig,’ to remove whatever is in the way of receiving His perspective—which includes my own agenda, my impressions, my hurts, and then to wait for His blessing to fill that space.
And by His Grace, our refreshment in Him can refresh others. So let’s keep on digging!
