#506 Another Lesson in Making Room for Their Surpassing Power Through the Proper Use of our Limitations Psalm 139 Part 4
As I recover from surgery and pray for strength and perspective regarding some old thoughts and emotional habits that have come to the surface, several spiritual tools help me through these feelings and reactions often related to depression and anxiety.
I hear my Heavenly Father speak through Psalm 139:
*I fully understand your feelings and the issues behind these feelings and reactions. Psalm 139:1-2: Paraphrase: You have searched, examined and penetrated my thoughts, my ups and downs, and You understand. Verse 4: There is no distance that thwarts this understanding…You are near!
*Please know that I understand the root of the issue that needs to be healed and cleansed and I love you too much to let you stay there. Psalm 139:3 Paraphrase: You compassest and scrutinize and winnow my well trodden, habitual ways of thinking and navigating my life, and You are intimately acquainted (NASB) with all my “roads,” course of life, mode of action. The word ‘compassest’ or ‘ scrutinize’ (#2219) in verse 3 includes the meaning of ‘to winnow.’ To winnow is to expose grain to a current of air in order to remove the chaff. He not only understands, with an understanding that penetrates to the deepest root of thought and reaction, but He winnows our habitual ways of ‘travel’—how we journey in life. He loves us too much to let us stay in destructive thought and reaction patterns.
*Surrender the reaction, the emotion, and what is behind that reaction—the thoughts and interpretation—to Me, knowing I understand and know how to use this as a tool for growth. Psalm 139:23 Paraphrase of our prayer: Penetrate and search me Lord, see my heart and test and investigate me, see and know my deepest thought, and open my eyes to what you see.
*Pray for the healing of the root as the Light of Pure Love shines upon the thoughts and even the wounds and issues that make you vulnerable to have these thoughts. Psalm 139:24 See if there is any hurtful (NASB) way, coarse or mode of life or action, and lead and guide me into Your Eternal path and course of life and action.
I have found Divine Validation, knowing that The Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus understand our thoughts and feelings, to be extremely helpful in going forward from reaction to the process of sanctification. Intense self-judgment literally tends to “lock down” logical brain function and hinders clear thinking. EXPERINECING Their understanding in prayer as we experience intense reaction and emotion and even repeating Psalm 139:1-3, etc. in prayer can really help us to go forward with Their Winnowing process! Experiencing Their understanding can free us to indentify and confess our faulty thinking, and surrender what needs to be healed and sanctified so that we can experience the Father’s faithfulness to forgive and to cleanse and winnow our hearts and minds from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
You understand me thoroughly. You are willing to winnow and cleanse my deepest issues. “Behind and before hast thou hedged me in…” (Leeser) We are completely besieged and surrounded by This love, power and providence. Such knowledge is too wonderful and remarkable to me, it is too high, beyond what I can imagine or think. Psalm 139:5-6; Ephesians 3:16-21
