#674 Antidotes for Personal Unrest Amid Unfolding Events of our Day Part 2
The question ‘Will I be faithful come what may’ is a searching one.
This question itself has brought some unrest to my heart.
It was in writing out these recent meditations, and praying for guidance and sanctified thinking, that some points have come to mind. I am led to renew my focus the faithful examples of the heroes of faith in Old Testament times; I am led to renew my focus on the faithful example of Jesus:
“Therefore, surrounded as we are by such a vast cloud of witnesses, let us fling aside every encumbrance and the sin that so readily entangles our feet. And let us run with patient endurance the race that lies before us, simply fixing our gaze upon Jesus, the Leader and Perfecter of faith. He, for the sake of the joy which lay before him, ‘endured a cross and thought nothing of its shame’ (Philipps) and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Weymouth
Think constantly of him enduring ‘such hostility directed against him by sinners’ and you will not lose your purpose or your courage.” Phillips Hebrews 12-1-3
One answer to ‘Will I be faithful come what may’ is the focus on the Faithfulness of those who have gone before, especially Jesus. John 12:27-28:
His soul was troubled.
He stated the question: What shall I say, Father save me from this hour?
He stated his answer: “For this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.”
When our soul is troubled, What shall we say, Father save me from this hour?
We need to focus on the same determination: I am determined to fulfill His purpose for me in the hour of challenge. Heavenly Father, the desire of my heart is for You to glorify Your name through this. I will drink of the Cup You have poured for me.
“Put the sword into the sheath; The cup which my Father has poured me, shall I not drink it?”
John 18.11
I surrender my sword of defense and resistance:
I will drink of the cup my Father has poured for me.
O LORD, we pray that our resolve and determination will be strengthened.
Open our eyes to our part in this process.
