#675 Antidotes for Personal Unrest Amid Unfolding Events of our Day Part 3
A few more verses brought up by the question ‘Will I be faithful come what may’?
Again!: “Therefore, surrounded as we are by such a vast cloud of witnesses, let us fling aside every encumbrance and the sin that so readily entangles our feet. And let us run with patient endurance the race that lies before us, simply fixing our gaze upon Jesus, the Leader and Perfecter of faith. He, for the sake of the joy which lay before him, ‘endured a cross and thought nothing of its shame’ (Philipps) and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Weymouth
Think constantly of him enduring ‘such hostility directed against him by sinners’ and you will not lose your purpose or your courage.” Phillips Hebrews 12-1-3
*There is a blessing in keeping a list of verses that capture the Faithful Determination of Jesus and the Heroes of Faith that surround us and cheer us forward through their examples.
“…let us fling aside every encumbrance and the sin that so readily entangles our feet.” There is a letting go that is necessary. Sometimes we hold on to our doubts and imaginations.
*Refocus, pouring any doubt and question to Him in prayer (Psalm 62:8) and then riveting our attention on the Promises, the example and words of our Precious Savior, and the examples of all those who have gone before.
“I will sing praise to Your name forever that I may pay my vows day by day.” Psalm 61.8
Praise was a part of Habakkuk’s triumph of rejoicing amid a coming crisis. He trembled at the thought of what was to come (Habakkuk 3:16) but he did not dwell in those thoughts. He lets go of the crises-thinking and refocuses on Praise for the God of His salvation. “YET I wait calmly for the day of distress, for a people to come to attack us.” Habakkuk 3:16 Tanakh “YET I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18
*We reset the focus and determination: I will rejoice in the God of my deliverance, regardless of the circumstances.
*Refocus on the Father’s intention and purpose of each challenge: He is the “God of my salvation, the God of Deliverance. “…You are guarded by the power of God operating through your faith, till you enter fully into the salvation (Philipps) ready to be revealed in the last time. (NASB) This means tremendous joy to you, I know, even though at present you are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident—it happens to prove your faith, which in infinitely more valuable than gold, and gold, as you know, even though it is ultimately perishable, must be purified by fire. This proving of your faith is planned to result in praise and honour and glory in the day when Jesus Christ reveals himself.” The end result is glory to God and Christ now and eternally as we dwell in their presence, and the ministry of blessing of all the families of the earth! 1 Peter 1:8-9
*Every challenge and experience is PURE OPPORTUNITY to Glorify His Name…John 12:27-28a
Declaring this in the midst of the challenge is strengthening.
