As the Pope's 9-letter surname, Bergoglio, has the word GOG bang in the middle of it, I wonder if biblical?reference to Gog of the land of Magog should exercise our minds?
Ezekiel 38:2 says, "Son of man, turn and face Gog of the land of Magog, the prince who rules over the nations of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. Give him this message from the Sovereign Lord; Gog, I am your enemy! I will turn you around and put hooks in your jaws to lead you out with your whole army... A long time from now you will be called into action. In the distant future you will swoop down on the land of Israel, which will be enjoying peace after recovering from war and after its people have returned from many lands to the mountains of Israel..." NLT
It's not Pope BerGOGlio's ethnicity that matters, but whether he turns out to be involved in this attack against Israel in the distant future from when Ezekiel was given that prophecy! Is that not worth bearing in mind?
Answer:
Gog is Biblical, but has no reference to this Pope.
The Gog of Ezekiel is different than that of Revelation.
Ezekiel is talking about an Islamic horde from the North (Former Russian states "chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, "--Moscow and Leningrad--ancient names for those modern cities) These peoples come down and gather others on the way to amass a wave of destruction--the Book of Joel describes them as a locust army devouring everything in their path. Their goal is destroy Israel who is living in unwalled villages at this time--which is after Psalm 83. This event is also described by Jeremiah as Jacob's Trouble and in Zechariah 12, 14, Isaiah 4:3
In the Revelation picture the timing is different--it is at the end of the Millennial Kingdom--the Little Season at the end which will be the final test to weed out the disobedient of the world of mankind--and those that obtain unto that day (the time after the Little Season) will be like the angels in that they will not die any more (not in that they will change to spirit nature.)
One of the differences we see in the two scriptures is: Gog being an individual from the Land of Magog, where as in Revelation it is Gog AND Magog. Revelation is using the End Times battle in Ezekiel as a word picture to show the masses at the end of the Kingdom who will not desire after all they have seen and been resurrected to be in harmony with God. They will rebel first chance they get, and God will give it to them to manifest to everyone what was in their heart all along. So then when they are destroyed for good, everyone can say Amen!
