#592 Casting our Care and Leaving it There
“Casting all your care upon him for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5.7 This is an amazing exchange: We give Him our anxiety and distraction; He gives us His attentive interest and concern. It is certainly a spiritually valuable endeavor, to His Glory, and yet it can be difficult to leave the care we cast on Him and not take it back again. My Sister described this to me as: Casting our care is not supposed to have a boomerang effect!
First we need to realize that a habit of thought may require repeated casting. Our spiritual muscles must be conditioned to throw the care and distraction with proper spiritual aim and with enough spiritual energy. “Solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.” Hebrews 5:14
Our casting needs to be done in His presence, knowing Who He Really Is. Psalm 62:1 He is the ONLY source of answers to our dilemmas! My soul waits in silence for God ONLY; He is the source of my deliverance and welfare. Psalm 62:2 He is the ONLY source of my stability and my deliverance, my high place of refuge. I shall not be greatly shaken or moved.
Part of our challenge is stated in Psalm 62:3-4 . (1) We have an enemy intent on destruction, looking at us as a wall that is weak and leaning, or a fence that is easily pushed over. Do we look at ourselves as the way the enemy does, as weak? The truth is that in Christ are strong and we can be strong in Him and the power of His might. Philippians 4:13; Ephesians 6:10
(2) This enemy wants to “thrust him down from his high position” Satan’s intent is to thwart and destroy our spiritual relationship as Sons. Our focus must be on the Heavenly Fathers desire: “Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God and He will exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6 (3) Satan delights in using falsehood and lies, appearing to bless, but in reality wanting to curse. We must be aware of the how thoughts of fear and distraction often contain inaccurate assessments His attributes, and minimize His Justice, Power, Wisdom and Love. 2 Corinthians 10:5
When we identify how our fear or distraction may be defining our Heavenly Father it can give us greater motivation to cast or throw with more spiritual energy and determination.
We must complete the spiritual throw, which requires complete surrender by letting go of our own perception of what we fear of what may or may not happen or what should happen.
Psalm 62:5 Our ONLY defense and strength, stated again: WAIT IN SILENCE for God ONLY, FOR my expectation is from HIM. Part of complete surrender is to quiet the incessant chatter of our old-mind-thinking, which creates opinions and fears that we become attached to, and trading them in for HIS expectation. Psalm 62:6 God ONLY is my rocky cliff or stability and my deliverance. My stronghold high and secure place of refuge.
“Trust in—[have confidence and be secure in Him] at all times, O people…” Part of casting our concerns on Him is to reaffirm that there are no exceptions to the reality of His Faithfulness in every circumstance, despite the appearance of the circumstance.
“Pour out your heart before Him”: Part of casting our care on Him is to share all that is in our heart—casting all our care on Him for he cares for us—‘For He is a refuge shelter for us.’ (Psalm 62:8)
