#379 Continual Praise Hebrews 13:15
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually,
the fruit of lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13:15
“By him therefore”
We are strengthened and stabilized by the example of Jesus and his suffering (Hebrews 13:12) to join him ‘without the camp, bearing his reproach.” (verse 13). We share with Christ the experience of being a pilgrim and stranger here, seeking the city to come, the Kingdom of God and its eternal blessings. (verse 14)
Let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually—through all time!
Persistently! Tenaciously! Continually!
“I will praise the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1
“The fruit of lips”
This praise is defined as the fruit (#2590: fruit, as plucked) of lips: the fruit of our words in as result of the harvest of our thoughts.
The continual theme of our thinking and emotional attachments directly affects the harvest of our words.
“Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34
“Giving thanks to his name”
Here the harvest of our thinking is connected with giving thanks (#4670: to assent [agree], ie covenant, acknowledge) Part of our praise is agreeing with and acknowledging His name. This is the essence of our covenant with Him by sacrifice. We agree with and acknowledge Who He Is, the One who gave us His only begotten Son, the Creator of Deliverance for us and for all.
We agree with Who His Is despite the appearance of circumstance.
We agree with His choices and overruling on our behalf because He is Faithful.
“I have longed for Your deliverance, O LORD; Your teaching is my delight.” Psalm 119:176 Tenakh
“To do what pleases You, my God, is my desire; Your teaching is in my inmost parts.” Psalm 40:9 Tenakh
Thanksgiving is like a magnifying glass. “I will praise the name of God with song, and shall magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30
Let us choose to see all of life through this magnifying glass of Thanksgiving, that He is the bigger than any fear, foe and any false perception we cling to.
“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually,
the fruit of lips giving thanks to his name.” Hebrews 13:15
