#458 Diamonds in the Night
John 17:7, 8; 15,16, 25 “…they have obeyed Thy teaching.
Now they know that truths which Thou didst teach me I have taught them.
And they have received them, and have known for certain that I came out from Thee, and have believed that Thou didst send me.”
It meant so much to Jesus that his followers recognized who he was.
He was giving them assurance, that he deeply appreciated their faith in him,
even though that faith would falter and they would fail him very soon.
It is interesting to see the number of times that Jesus refers to his disciples knowing who he was
and how he was sent by and came from His Father in the prayer recorded in John 17.
I thought about how much it meant to him to be understood and loved,
even though it was limited at that point in time.
And how that light of love and acceptance shone so brightly against the darkness of unbelief and hatred.
No one else in the darkness of this world saw this light.
I picture the Memorial evening as it is celebrated in each home,
in each town or city, throughout the world.
Each heart gathered for this celebration shines a light of deep appreciation and love for his great sacrifice.
And amid the darkness of sin and death in our world,
the Father and the Son and the risen saints behold with great joy the bright shining of remembrance
in these loving hearts, the scattered lights on this earth that shine out like precious diamonds.
You diamonds in the night
from heaven the Father and the Son watch
for first signs of your Light--
those bright gems that pierce the darkness of the world as it turns,
that light of faith that believes the breadth of his Deliverance
and yearns for Blessing.
One here in a remote town, some there in a city, a number in another;
they pass the Bread and then the Cup,
bound by deep love to their Savior, Sister, Brother.
From heaven the Father and the Son watch in joy, awaiting Consummation
when healing truth will flow through to every nation.
O for the Day when gems of faith aglow and bright
shine o’er the earth, when darkness knows defeat by light;
the triumph of the Father, Son and Bride above,
the triumph of Delivering Love.
O that our faith will shine to Their Glory
as we partake of this Memorial and as we continue
to live this Memorial day by day in our lives!
