Emotion Management through The Power of Discretion

#302 Emotion Management through The Power of Discretion Proverbs 13.12
We all have desires and hopes based on our view of life. We create a definite scenario of what needs to happen and we become attached to it. Whatever the expectation is, we WANT it to happen in the way we have constructed as “best” in our minds.
When we face the disappointment of hope being undermined or delayed we can feel frustration and anger.
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
So maybe we need to look at our ‘hopes’ and expectations and desires.
Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires:
first He empowers us to Desire His Desires. Philippians 2:13
Then He will GIVE or fulfill those desires.
“Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” Psalm 37:5 NASB
Proverbs 19:11 “A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.”
The word discretion is Strong’s #7922: intelligence. There is an important principle stated here. Getting stuck in anger or any emotion can be overcome through Divine intelligence. Allowing God to renew our mind so that we see through the Mind of God and Christ increases intelligence, understanding, and wisdom. 1 Corinthians 2:7-16 If we ask for wisdom (James 1:5; 3:17-18) adjust our thinking and the hope we are attached to (2 Corinthians 10:4-5), our feelings will follow. The affections, feelings and attachments of the heart are connected with what we treasure. Matthew 6:20-21!
Instead of treasuring our short sighted scenario with its attendant frustration we can treasure the priceless Truth and perspective of God and Christ. We can trust that they stand for the highest good, come what may, and rejoice!
