#716 Glorify Thy Name in us, O LORD
I am again impressed with the need to repeatedly, in every challenge and in every blessing, seek to Glorify the Name of our Heavenly Father. I feel compelled to share this theme again because I am finding it to be very grounding in my life amid uncertainty and challenge.
Jesus instinctive response in every experience was Father, Glorify Thy Name.
Jesus became crystalized in Glorifying the Father in his earthly ministry amid repeated challenge and testing, John 12:27-28 “Now my soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Thy name.” He LEARNED obedience—attentive listening and surrender to the Father’s will, which Glorified His name, by the things that he repeatedly suffered and experienced. Hebrews 5:8 This crystalized instinctive response will continue in glory for all eternity. John 17:1. “Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy Son, that the Son may glorify Thee…” Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore also God highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Jesus counseled: “Drink ye all of it.” This is an individual invitation. No one can drink the Cup for us. And we must drink all of what the Father pours. My Sister pointed out that our response should not be, ‘I’ll take a sip’ or ‘No thank you, I’m not thirsty.’ Our response should be to put away our sword of resistance, willing to drink of every experience that is poured: “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it?” John 18:11
We also must develop this instinctive response to glorify the Father to the point of crystallization. This crystallization of character is developed as we seek to glorify the Father and the Son in each experience.
Each experience can be practice in developing this reflexive instinct of bringing Glory to the Father.
In every challenge and joy in life may this be our prayer, Father Glorify Thy Name.
