#705 He Sustains the Weary with a Word
Isaiah 50:4 “The Lord God has given me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.”
“Although he was a Son, he learned obedience [attentive hearkening] from the things which he suffered.” Hebrews 5:8 Jesus learned to attentively hearken to the Father through the suffering and challenges of his experiences, overruled by the Father. He had such an intimate and continuous relationship with the Father, he was awakened morning by morning—the priority of his day was to hear and to listen as one being taught. “I can do nothing on my own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and my judgement is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will o f Him who sent me.” John 5:30
He exercised this ability to know how to sustain the weary one with a word throughout his earthly ministry. And finally, while on the cross, in overwhelming pain and emotional strain, he sustained the weary:
“When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!” The he said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household. John 18:26-27;
“And one of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at him, saying, ‘Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!’ But the other answered, and rebuking him said, ‘Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.’ And he was saying, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom.’ And he said to him, ‘Truly I say to you today, you shall be with me in paradise.’ Luke 23.43
He learned this ability to sustain the weary in earthly ministry and he continues to exercise this power in glory! Note the promises given to each of the seven Gospel Age Churches in Revelation 2-4.
“My God shall supply all your needs according to the riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
