Hearing through the Ears of Jesus and Seeing through his Eyes

Lord, teach me to see people the way Jesus saw them. “And seeing the multitudes, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36
#240 Hearing through the Ears of Jesus and Seeing through his Eyes
“The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.
He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.
The Lord GOD has opened my ear; And I was not disobedient, Nor did I turn back.” Isaiah 50:4-5
I see another dimension to these verses, after meditating on how Jesus saw people during his earthly ministry.
“He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.” “The Lord GOD has opened my ear…”
These phrases certainly describe our Lord’s desire to listen and be open to the will of the Father in every circumstance, especially in his last days. As we walk in his footsteps to the best of our ability, we also pray this prayer.
It starts with how we listen to God. That opens our ears to include how we listen to the people in our lives, and if we are open to their deepest need for the Lord in their lives, and if we are open to see the treasure in each person, be it hidden or visible. A dear sister reminded me of this poem:
IF WE ONLY UNDERSTOOD.
COULD we draw aside the curtains
That surround each other's lives,
See the naked heart and spirit,
Know what spur the action gives--
Often we would find it better,
Purer than we judge we would;
We would love each other better
If we only understood.
Could we judge all deeds by motives,
See the good and bad within,
Often we would love the sinner
All the while we loathe the sin.
Could we know the powers working
To o'erthrow integrity,
We would judge each other's errors
With more patient charity.
If we knew the cares and trials,
Knew the efforts all in vain,
And the bitter disappointments--
Understood the loss and gain--
Would the grim external roughness
Seem, I wonder, just the same?
Would we help where now we hinder?
Would we pity where we blame?
Ah, we judge each other harshly,
Knowing not life's hidden force;
Knowing not the fount of action
Is less turbid at its source.
Seeing not amid the evil
All the golden grains of good,
Oh, we'd love each other better
If we only understood. Poems of Dawn pg139
Yes, every person presents us with an opportunity to pray for their highest good and blessing.
We are surrounded with opportunities for prayer.
Lord, lead us to the word that can encourage the ones who are weary.
