#583 His Glory: A Call to Re-focus
In his last days our Precious Savior voiced these words:
“Now my soul has become troubled; and what shall I say,
‘Father save me from this hour’?
But for this purpose I came to this hour.
‘Father, glorify Thy name.’” John 12:27-28
Jesus was troubled (Strong’s #5018: agitated) and aware of the experiences to come, even to the death of the cross. He bore the great weight of the turning-point-‘krisis’ of the world John 12:31, knowing the salvation of the world was on his shoulders.
But the answer to his agitation was not to ask that these experiences be taken away, but that the name of His Father be glorified. His focus was on the glory of God, regardless of the cost.
This is a call for us to re-focus.
Whatever we face, for whatever cause we may become agitated or troubled, fallen human thinking often focuses on the extent of the challenge and difficulty. As we are empowered to bring every thought captive to the obedience—Strong’s #5218 the ‘attentive hearkening’ of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5; Hebrews 5:8) the focus changes.
May we apply this principle of attentive hearkening to the mind of Christ!
(This principle is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 10:31: Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.)
We are faced with another conflict: May this be to Your glory.
We have another nagging health issue: Father glorify Thy name through this.
We make a mistake and fail: May this be to Your glory as I learn through Your leading and though the spirit go forward with the lesson.
Whatever the experience and turn of events: Father, glorify Thy name.
Lord, help us focus on YOUR GLORY and not on our own opinion and attachment to outcomes.
May we live EVERY experience TO YOUR GLORY.
