A dear Sister in Christ sent me this definition of worship from Webster’s dictionary, year 1828:
Worship is to honor with extravagant adoration and extreme submission.”
The desire of our hearts!
#451 His Word that Sustains us in Times of Weariness Part 1
“The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of disciples,
that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.
He awakens me morning by morning,
He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.
The Lord GOD has opened my ear;
and I was not disobedient, nor did I turn back.” Isaiah 50:4-5
He was awakened and aware each morning of his earthly ministry, moment by moment, as one who is teachable and eager to listen and to hear the will of His Father and to fulfill that will.
“I can do nothing of my own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just,
because I do not seek my own will, but the will of Him who sent me.” John 5:30
The gathering in the upper room was no exception. And in the face of this hour of turmoil and testing, he sustained the weary, his disciples, and he sustained all those who would believe as a result of their teaching, with his words He spoke John 13 –17.
Below is a paraphrase of Scripture, in answer to the question, ‘What message did Jesus want me to receive from these words?’ This paraphrase is a testimony to what these words mean to me personally. For we can still hear his words speak to our times of weariness, and we still feel their sustaining power:
I want you to be supremely happy and full of joy by learning to support each other in your struggles with sin…washing one another’s feet. John 13:1-7
I give each of you a new commandment: I want you to love each other the way I loved you—be my heart, my hands and my feet to one another. I wish to embrace and welcome my Brethren through you, and speak to them words of encouragement and acts of kindness through you. And I wish them to embrace and encourage and bless you through their acts of love. John 13:34
I want to be with you for all eternity.
And I am committed to get you there:
I am your road: follow my example. I am your truth: absorb, learn and think my thinking.
I am your life: I am your resurrection power and your access to actual resurrection. John 14:1-3
We have provided for you to be fully equipped to deal with all the challenges ahead through the Comforter, the power of the holy Spirit.
I give you my peace. Please do not choose to be in turmoil or fear. John 14:26-27
