How to live in the “Cancel Culture”
“In the last few weeks, the world has witnessed, to its utter dismay, social media silencing presidents, shutting up Conservatives, and canceling Christians. And, the list of those being canceled continues to expand. Whistleblowers sitting in on secret Big Tech meetings have revealed that these monopolies plan on broadening their restrictions and shutting down a lot more people. We now live in a time period defined as the Cancel Culture.” (NathanJones)
The Cancel Culture may be a new term—but the concept has been around for ages. The Prophet Jeremiah was thrown into a cistern for speaking Truth—the elite and priesthood of his day attempted to “cancel” him and silence. The Prophet Isaiah was sawn in half to cancel him. Hebrews chapter 11 is a list of those of the Old Testament who stood up for God and had faith in Him, many of whom were Martyrs (witnesses) for God.
Jesus, our redeemer and Lord, was a victim of “canceling” by the religious rulers of his day. When silencing him and demonizing him didn’t work, they took it to the next level, but they had to be careful how they executed their villainy so as to manipulate public opinion.
Peter and John were beaten and told not to speak anymore in an attempt to “cancel” them.
Acts 4:16-21 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. 21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
Peter and John would not be “canceled”, they didn’t care what others thought, they could only speak the Truth and speak Jesus. “Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.” What courage and what faith to be so bold against an angry mob who had just killed their Lord.
We are now in an age where it is becoming unpopular in this country to be a True Christian. In history and in other nations this is nothing new. Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ were “canceled” and murdered and tortured for Christ, but in the US this hasn’t been the case. America is where the religiously persecuted fled for refuge from the Inquisition and other oppressions.
Now with the world becoming “One”, there is no more refuge. The Chinese have as much reach in America as they do in their own country to silence outspoken Chinese Christians. An example is Bob Fu. Bob started China Aid in support of religious freedoms in China—and now is in protective custody with his family, in the US because of threats.
“Recently, a Chinese billionaire (living in New York City) made an “elimination list,” in which he named over 30 Chinese human right activists living in the USA, and stated that they should be killed. Bob Fu is at the top of his list” (Revelation Media)
The world now has the ability to hunt others from every corner of the earth, and seems more and more enjoy this “recreation”. In a world of “lock down”, many are spending more time in front of their computers, some for good, and some for evil.
The “cancel culture” for the moment seems to be directed at the rich, powerful or influential, but what will it look like when it is directed at those living their Christian faith?
Jesus tells us:
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Not only does he tell us that it is coming, but we like our master must continue to work before that night comes when all Christian work will cease due to global conditions that would prohibit preaching the Word.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
God asked Moses, “What is in your hand?” What is in our hand? Let’s hope it is the Bible, so at the present moment the door of opportunity is open for us to share the Word—are you taking advantage of it? There will come a time when we won’t be able to, so do so now with all your might.
Revelation 3:8-13 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. … 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. … 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The door is still open, increase your strength and don’t deny the Lord. We can deny him by not speaking about him—saying “my faith is a personal matter”—No it isn’t. If the Lord of Jesus is in your bones, you like the prophet Jeremiah will not be able to forebear.
Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
Consider the Message of the 3 angels in Revelation just before the Harvest of the Earth.
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Now, more than ever do we have the ability to “preach to every nation, kindred, and tongue, and people. Here is the admonition to “fear God” and not man, because the fear of man brings a snare (a snare to keep us quiet).
Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
We live in unprecedented times—We live in the end of the age, at the cusp of the new age—the Kingdom we all pray for. Things will happen fast and furious, make your stand now with God, so that you don’t stand with the Beast which is to fall. Have the seal of God in your forehead and not the “mark of the beast”.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
What a glorious commendation to have said of us by our Lord. Let us be worthy, let us keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus—while the world attempts to “cancel us”. They will cancel us if we are faithful, but that is OK, we will have part in the first resurrection.
Are we prepared to suffer the same fate as the faithful brethren before us?
John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
