483b Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God 1 Peter 5.6
I felt overwhelmed and not feeling well from all the smoke in the air from fires in our area. I was worn out, impatient, and I got very upset that I couldn’t find 4 lids to Tupperware containers…!
Then there were also some relationship challenges that felt overwhelming….
“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…” This phrase is used only here in the New Testament. It is used in the Septuagint in two places. Exodus 3:19 “But I know that the King of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him.” Job 30:21 You turn on me ruthlessly, with the might of your hand you attack me.”
The Mighty Hand of God includes the power He exercised in the strongest and most trying experiences, to allow, to time, to diminish, to increase. Humble yourselves to accept all experiences, even those that are intense and appear to be destructive…
“And he will exalt you in due time” Every experience on this side of the veil is temporary—He knows the right time to lift us up out of the experience in this life, and He knows the right time to lift us up into reward in the next life.
The Mighty Hand that permitted and overruled any challenge is also mighty to create Highest Good and blessing from it!
“Everything is being done by the mighty power of God, by which he is causing all things to work together for good.” R5185:4
Whosoever would be sustained by the hand of God, let him constantly lean upon it;
whosoever would be defended by it, let him patiently repose himself under it. R21
“Casting all your care on him, for he careth for you.”
