Is a judge performing his duties in a courtroom violating Jesus' command, "Do not judge"?
Matt 7: 1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
Answer:
That is kind of cherry picking. There are plenty of other scriptures that talk about judging. "Know ye not that ye shall judge angels and men and can ye not judge the least matter?"
The Christian is a judge in training. That will be our job in the next age--we will be judges, kings and priests
So if we are incapable of judging things in this life--we get a fail
One of the first things we need to learn to judge is what we can and cannot judge. If we do not know these basic things--guess what we get a fail.
We cannot judge another's heart--we can't read the heart
We cannot judge another's destination--that alone is reserved for God
But we are by duty to judge actions and fruit.
You yourself put up posts on homosexuality--have you not made a judgement (using God's Word) that it is wrong? Is that proper judgement or not? Once you can establish that there is proper judgement then one can proceed onto other matters which we are obligated to judge.
As the Christian has their handbook (the Bible) on how to correctly judge a matter, so do civil judges. They use man's laws of right and wrong to judge a matter. They do not judge heart or destiny only actions.
Because our government is not Christian by any stretch of the imagination they are not under God's Word and as a Christian we are not of this world and so we don't expect until the Kingdom, we pray for, that proper judgment according to God's Word will occur.
