Jesus' Last Prayer part 6

A dear Sister shared this thought:
John 17 is about my favorite chapter in the Scriptures....it is especially meaningful on a personal level, if you substitute YOUR name in the prayer of our Lord.....this prayer was not only for his beloved ones at that time, but also for all those down through the ages, including you and me...and ALL the Brethren....
We have the joy of praying AND the joy of being prayed for!
#231 Jesus' Last Prayer and the Joy that Prayer Imparts John 17 #6
Jesus stood with this small band of followers who represented all those who would choose to take up his cross and stand for his cause. His heart rejoiced as he considered the reason the Father sent him, His purpose to eradicate sin and lead people into relationship with the Father. And his heart must have found joy and strength in the fact these followers were sent to stand for the same cause, to share in his work of reconciliation.
As You sent me into the world, I also sent them into the world. Verse 18
There is great joy in sharing the mission of Christ.
There is great joy in being sent by Jesus into the world to bear witness to the truth of the love of the Father, the love of the Son and the great blessing that will touch every life as a result of that love.
Jesus expressed his determination to be faithful to the will of the Father regardless of the cost. His intention and purpose was that his followers would be set apart for Divine use, inspired and strengthened by his example and by the power of the holy Spirit.
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. Verse 19
One part of our joy is to be empowered through the holy Spirit, moved to action by the example of our Lord.
Another part of our joy is to sanctify ourselves in order that others may be sanctified, the desire to be an inspiration and help to our Brethren and the world…
“But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.” Philippians 2:17
I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in me through their word. Verse 20
His thoughts were not narrowed to his own suffering, or even the challenges of the ones closest to him. His awareness expanded to the needs of his followers throughout the age, and even to the end of the age. [That means us!]
There is great joy in praying for all the Brotherhood, even to the end of this age, through present challenges and through events that have not yet unfolded…
“Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm…With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the spirit and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints…” Ephesians 6:13, 18
