Jesus' Last Prayer Part 7

We are separate from the world, but not isolated:
we are bound by the love of God and Christ, and thereby bound to one another.
We are bound to a common vision of sharing the ministry of Christ now and in the future, a ministry that reflects the creative work of God when out of chaos came Life.

#232 Jesus Last Prayer and the Joy that Prayer Imparts John 17 #7
Jesus prayed for his followers to experience the same oneness that he experienced with the Father, a oneness that energized and inspired him in the face of every challenge. This oneness would provide a united testimony, witness and example to the world as basis to believe Jesus role as the Deliverer, the Sent of God, both now and in the Kingdom. He foresaw the Pentecostal pouring out of the holy Spirit as so real, it was as if it had already happened. He had personally experienced the glory of the holy Spirit’s power and guidance in his own life, and he knew this living power would create a oneness of mission and fellowship among his followers.
That they may all be one; even as You, father are in me, and I in You, that they also may be in us; that the world may believe that You did send me. Verse 21
And the glory which You have given me I have given to them; that they may be one, just as we are one; verse 22
We have the great joy of working shoulder to shoulder to share truth and the hope for all, with all.
We have the joy of the power of the holy Spirit in our lives empowering us to regard one another in a spirit of cooperation and love. Romans 5:1-5
Jesus rejoiced in prayer in the united fellowship and common bond between the Father, the Son, and his Brethren. Again he rejoiced that this common bond of unity would be evidence to the world now and in the Kingdom, of the depths of divine love.
I in them, and You in me, that they may be perfected in unity, that the world may know that You did send me, and did love them, even as You did love me. Verse 23
Jesus knew he would no longer walk this earth with those he loved, and he longed for unbroken fellowship with these men and all his followers throughout the age. He expressed his longing to be with these followers for eternity because he wanted us to see his glory, the glory of partnership in the Father’s cause and creative work of eternal life on behalf of all the human family. [The phrase “before the foundation of the world” associates Jesus role in the creation of the earth, and the creation of man with the glory he wishes us to behold and partake in. Proverbs 8:22-31; John 1:1-5 For You did love me before the foundation of the world—You gave me the honor of working closely with You in the creation of the world and the creative process. Verse 24 paraphrase
Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given me, be with me where I am, in order that they may behold my glory, which you have given me; for You did love me before the foundation of the world. Verse 24
What greater joy could there be, than the joy of sharing in the creative work of God and Christ that will bring eternal life to all our human family. Romans 8:18-21
