#459 Living Each Moment for Him
"…This one thing I do, forgetting [to lie hid] those things which are behind
and reaching forth [to stretch] (ie exerting all energy for the opportunities)
which are before—that lie before [in front of me]….
I press [pursue] toward the mark
for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. Phil 3:13-14
Exerting all my energy for the opportunities that are in front of us: that’s what Jesus did!
That’s what made it possible for him to speak John 13-17 with such severe testing on his horizon. Isaiah 50:4-5
O LORD, I want to give you this present moment, what is in front of me.
It is all I have to give.
Guard my heart from distraction from the opportunities of each moment,
from doubt, from dwelling on the opinion of others,
from fear of outcomes beyond my control.
What is in my power to choose in the present moment is obedience and praise.
The outcomes are mercifully up to You.
Doubt, preoccupation with opinion of others, fear of outcomes can distract from obedience.
It helps me to ask: what is the present opportunity for obedience?
BEFORE the event the present opportunity is to watch and pray. Matthew 26:41
“KEEP watching and praying, that you may not enter into temptation…”
During the event the present opportunity is to endure as we carry out His will
and keep the issues at hand in perspective.
Jesus DESPISED the shame, he made it little. Hebrews 12:3
He did not let the shame and humiliation of the cross
and the opinion and accusations of others distract him from obedience.
Too often it easy to live in events before they happen.
We can suffer through the power of our imagination,
as if the event we are anticipate was already happening,
when the present time is really meant as a resting place,
to watch and pray and be prepared.
Let us cast aside these distracting imaginations! 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
I want my focus to be on how You are with me in this moment,
and on listening to Your voice and leading in this moment. Psalm 25:4-5
There is something to praise you for in each moment.
FOR despite what is happening now or in any future moments,
YOU ARE HOLY in this present moment and forever. Psalm 22:2-5
