At all times, recognize the difference between the influences that are appealing to our flesh and the influences that are appealing to our spirit. Choose to put away the fleshly influences and to receive and act upon the spirit influences.”
So I have been led to see some habits I have as from the flesh, for example I tend to speak to myself under my breath, and especially as I get older it can be negative. Also the look on my face as I work in the kitchen, can be very somber and sad when I am in a hurry or when I’m frustrated. I had not identified some of my habits as ‘from the flesh,’ but the Lord has drawn them to my attention and with this realization, now the habits can be surrendered to His sanctifying power. It has helped greatly to talk to Jesus as I am in the midst of an ‘irritating’ circumstance. It also helps to foresee the challenge that I know is on the way, like when I know I will have to wait in a very long line. I try to foresee that challenge talk to the Lord about it in prayer, praying to see the privilege I am about to have to stand in line and pray for the people there, and perhaps to find a privilege of service, like being friendly or helpful in some way, or handing out a tract, continuing instant in prayer. Romans 12:12.
