#246 Looking to Him 2 Chronicles 20.12
At times when I have been overwhelmed by challenges that seem to come all at once, and when my fears are in the way of my peace, I find Jehoshaphat’s prayer to be a great help. He prayed in regard to the threat of mighty armies from Ammon, Moab and Mt Seir.
“For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.
We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12
During discussions when I am afraid to even consider an option
because of emotional reaction it has proven helpful to pray: I wonder what Your will is?
In the face of fear it is helpful to whisper the prayer: Thy will be done; Thy will be done.
This prayer of Divine Curiosity is powerful: I wonder what Your will is?
I wonder what Your wisdom and far seeing Love is creating for development and deliverance?
And then this Divine Declaration:
Whatever Your will is, again, we can declare that it is good i.,e beneficial;
that it is acceptable: we embrace it;
that it is perfect—completely fitting us for our place in Eternity with You.
Thy will be done! I will not fear
The lot provided by thy love;
Though clouds and darkness shroud me here,
I know that all is bright above.
Father, forgive the heart that clings,
Thus trembling to the things of time;
And bid me, as on eagle wings,
Ascend into a purer clime.
O let not doubts disturb its trust,
Nor sorrows dim its heaven’ly love;
Nor these afflictions of the dust
My inmost calm and peace remove. Hymns of Dawn 307
O LORD we pray for focus on You, and the fact that Your will
is the embodiment of Perfect Love and Wisdom,
rather than to focus on our fear…
