#605 Love is Patient
“Love is patient….” 1 Corinthians 13:7
His love is patient. We see His love as willing to take the time necessary to teach, to give full opportunity for change and learning so there is a full opportunity to bless. “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 This principle applies both to the followers of Christ and to the world in the permission of evil and their future blessing.
“By your endurance you will gain your lives.” Luke 21:19 “It is our God who exercises awesome patience for centuries, Who promises to give us a bit of His strength and Vision so that we can learn to sink into His time in His Way.” Shared by a Dear Sister.
Isaiah 30:18 “Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you., And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.” NASB He longs to be gracious to bring Blessing and resolution to you, and that’s why He waits to exercise that compassion. He is eager to deliver, waiting for the right time “that he may at last interpose effectually.” Ellicott
“Blessed are all they that wait for Him.” We are blessed as we eagerly and confidently wait for His deliverance. His love is patient, as He restrains His desire to bless until the best time.
We can confidently know that any delay in resolution or blessing is for our good—to accomplish His Highest Blessing.
His Patient love inspires us to trust His timing, so that His timing can become our timing—when we don’t insist on our timetable for resolution. “But as for me, I trust in Thee, O LORD, I say, ‘Thou art my God.’ My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.” Psalm 31:14-15
We glorify Him when we let His love shine through us in our love for others, willing to take the time necessary to work through conflicts and challenges in relationships. “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2 “…let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger…” James 1:19 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
We glorify Him when we let His love shine through us in how we deal with not only others, but also ourselves, with the patience inspired by His patience regarding the length of time for the process of maturing in Christ and sanctification to be complete. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love,” trusting the heights of His Chesed Love and Affection—verse 11, and the breadths of His forgiveness verse—12, trusting His Fatherly compassion—verse 13 and His understanding of our limitations—verse 14. Psalm 103:8-14
