#487 My Prayer in the Morning Psalm 5.3
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Psalm 5:3 The phrase ‘direct my prayer’ means ‘to set in order,’ and is used in Genesis 22:9: Abraham built an altar there, and ‘laid in order’ the wood…
In the morning O LORD you hear my voice, ‘What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me.’ We set the wood in order on the altar and prepare to give You what You request. Like Abraham we look up and see Your Provision. We surrender all to you each morning, and we watch and wait in expectation of Your Provision. See Psalm 5:3 NIV
We have already ‘laid our Isaac down,’ and given our all in obedience to His will. But what is the Isaac, the most precious thing in my life, that I still need to lay down on the altar of sacrifice? What, Lord, am I holding back?
He will reveal and by His Grace and Holy Provision we will obey.
I find the song below to be very beautiful and inspiring.
The Day I Lay My Isaac Down
by Lowell Alexander, Dave Clark, Bonnie Keen & Tony Wood
I have a prayer as pure as gold
That where You lead me I will go
And I'll embrace the holy plea
Each time your Spirit calls to me
And in that hour, and in that time
When I must lose my will in Thine
My true devotion will be found
The day I lay my Isaac down
Each sacrifice You call me to
I'll die to self, I'll live for You
Take up the cross, forsake the crown
The day I lay my Isaac down
Your Lamb of Love, Thy blessed friend
Nailed to the altar for each sin
There in my place Your Son was bound
The day You laid Your Isaac Down
Each sacrifice You call me to
I'll die to self, I'll live for You
Take up the cross, forsake the crown
The day I lay my Isaac down
Take up the cross, forsake the crown
The day I lay my Isaac down
