#482 On Which Side Will We Dwell? 2 Cor 6.9-10 Phil 4.8
An employee reported to me how much he disliked presentations given in the past at our monthly company meeting. These were presentations that I had prayed about and spent time and effort with the intention to create a team atmosphere and personal participation in being part of a team and in choosing to make the kind of decisions that lead to good outcomes.
There are two sides to every experience: One side is the world’s view, ie earthly reasonings. The other side is Heavenly Perspective which inspires the renewed heart and mind.
My old thinking says “I am insulted and hurt.” My new mind hears the voice of Jesus:
Will you accept the honor of going through this experience with me?
The new mind hears the counsel of Colossians 3:23-24 Be careful to do all things as unto the Lord Christ; Remember the joy you got out of doing your best; (whatever you do, do it heartily!)
Take this criticism not as personal insult from a person, but as instruction out of love from the Lord. 2 Samuel 7:14-15a
I can choose to dwell in gratitude: Thank you that you know me in every effort.
Thank you for appreciating sincere efforts to be a blessing to others, even when they do not recognize the effort.
Paraphrase of 2 Corinthians 6:9-10 “As unknown, and yet well known”: By some we not understood, by others we are completely understood and appreciated.
“as dying, and, behold, we live”: It may appear that circumstance or persecution will prematurely end our life, but You are protecting us, and it will not be person or circumstance that ends life, but it will be the fulfilling of Your timing and will.
“as chastened, and not killed”: This discipline is not meant to kill me, it will make me strong, it will strengthen my spiritual life.
“as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing:”I may feel distress and sadness yet there is always a reason to rejoice.
“as poor, yet making many rich:” Others may look on me as poor, as having nothing of value, but You have given me the means to truly bless others and make them rich, by shining the light of truth and example now, planting seeds for the Kingdom, and through the future Ministry of Reconciliation.
“as having nothing, and yet possessing all things:” There may be times of destitution, materially or spiritually, when it appears that we have nothing. But You know what we need in every facet of life. We possess everything pertaining to life and godliness, through Your divine power. 2 Peter 1:3
The question is what side of the experience will we dwell on?
Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
Whether or not we have a place in the kingdom will depend on thinking of these things. (Pilgrim's Echoes-Br. Barton) pg 388-389
Thank you Sister Betty!
