Much love in Christ,
Joy

#238 Our Memorial Legacy
One strong message I get from our Memorial season experiences and studies is the request Jesus made, “Do this in remembrance of me,” as a plea to focus our attention on him.
Every year we hear the same plea to refocus our eyes on Our Beloved Savior.
It is so easy to forget, to get distracted.
The Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any thing in it....Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes. Deuteronomy 8:7-11
It is so easy to become focused on our challenges, our weaknesses, our fears, our joys, what we think is wrong with ourselves and what we think is wrong with others.
Jesus request puts all these things in their place.
The Memorial is a celebration of HIM. It is a call and reminded to look away from self and its unavoidable weaknesses and look to the Father’s provision in Christ.
The Memorial is a call to celebrate the focus of Jesus. Jesus focus was on the Father.
It is impossible to focus on the deliverance through the Lamb of God without grateful praise to the One who provided the deliverance. We can certainly trust One whose love and wisdom are so deep.
A dear sister wrote:
Faith in His Own ability brings Him joy and will bring us joy, as we trust Him even when we can’t see just HOW He is going to accomplish some of the blessings He has promised. The joyof being assured of this strengthens us with courage to go on, realizing that in spite of all our many weaknesses, shortcomings, mistaken decisions, etc., we CAN make our calling and election sure! He called us because He WANTED us to make it sure. We have already made our calling sure, when we accepted His tremendous invitation, consecrated our all to Him and were accepted by Him and begotten of His Spirit. Certainly He Who called us will give us all the help we need—and even more—to help us make our election sure, too!
The Memorial is a call to refocus our lives.
And that it why after the Memorial we are to “keep the feast” of Unleavened Bread, a seven day feast that represents a continuous and persistent unleavened lifestyle of thoughts and behavior. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8
