Overcoming Some Old Habits of Thought
Sometimes old ways of thinking may lead to looking at the past as our own Accuser with the verdict of“Inadequate!” “Not Good Enough!” and “Guilty!”
Verses to the Rescue! (Thank you Brother Ron)
Rom 8:33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?...
1Jn 4:4 KJV Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1Pe 5:7 KJV Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
He is able to free us from the bondage and chains of old default thinking through the moment by moment capturing of every thought to the love of Christ. (Thank you Sister Betty!): "Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." I think of it as capturing each thought into His love. [I just LOVE this thought!] This is the closest scripture I have found to the phrase, "moment by moment" closeness with the Lord. Thinking about my thinking, seeking to bring my thoughts more and more into that which is the spirit of Christ, His love, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, grace. Noticing when my thinking is sliding into a gray zone, a darker zone of fault finding, impatience, frustration, a little coldness toward another, sadness, worry, etc. And then calling upon His help to eliminate the negative thought, replacing it with one which is edifying, positive, honoring, turning it away from self to thinking of another or to thinking about the Lord, that is always a blessing! In order to do this, it is necessary for me to put in the good thoughts so this whole process is very good for the heart and so vital to the new creature.” (( And add to this Phil 4:6-8! (Thank you Sister Claudia!))
“They cried to the LORD in their trouble and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.” !!!! Psalm 107:13-14:
We can look backward (when necessary to learn) and forward in confidence, knowing that ‘our sufficiency is from him’ 2 Cor 3:5. The LORD will overrule anything we missed or fell short of— He will overrule it according to HIS wisdom for what else is needed in our spiritual walk. It is in HIS Checed -Ever -Faithful –Loving Hand, overruling all things.
Instead of dwelling on the obstacles and our own imperfections, we have the privilege to dwell on the amazing promises AND GREATER WORKS AND POWER of the LORD. AGAIN:
Rom 8:33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?...
1Jn 4:4 KJV Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1Pe 5:7 KJV Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Praying that He will strengthen us all in the process of capturing each thought into His love.
