#318 Red Sea Rule #6
When unsure, watch and pray and then just take the next logical step by faith
Exodus 14:15‐‐‐“The Lord said to Moses “Why do you cry to me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”
I have always wondered why God would say this to Moses. It seems like a good time to cry out to the LORD for direction. There is a possibility that God spoke to Moses about the Israelites crying out to Him as they did in verse 10. Or else God was addressing Moses in view of His past dealings with him. In either case God had set the stage for Moses to act and for the children of Israel to go forward.
That moment of anguish called not for prayer but for action. Soncino
Or perhaps this moment of anguish called for prayerful action!
The Lord had already told Moses that Pharaoh would chase after the Israelites, that there would be ‘no way out,’ boxed in by mountains and sea and that the result would be His deliverance. Exodus 14:1-4 God had already equipped Moses with a rod, and commissioned him with power to perform signs (Exodus 4:1-9,17). God has assured Moses that He would be with his mouth and teach him what he was to do. Exodus 4:15 So perhaps it was time to go forward in the light of past leading, time to apply what he had already been taught.
“Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher.
And your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:20-21
“As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.” Exodus 14:16 This verse suggests that God referred to the people when He asked the question, “Why do you cry out to me?” and referred to Moses when he said “As for you, lift up your staff…” Like the children of Israel it is easy for us to become paralyzed by fear. It is easy to over analyze our challenges and become paralyzed to the point of not acting when God has given us the means of Deliverance. We have our Greater than Moses to look to, and we know the breadths of his power. In the midst of great challenge the challenge is to surrender the paralyzed mentality and to trust the leading and power of our Moses and be ready to go forward. We need to watch for the next step of Deliverance and be ready to take that next step.
“But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.” Micah 7:7 (Again!)
Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. Psalms 5:8 And I will go forward in faith.
