#594 Redefining Our Perception of Rejection
I reacted to an incident where plans were changed without anyone talking with me about it.
My reaction was way bigger than the situation, and so I knew there must be a reaction from a perception-story from the past. I asked the LORD to help me identify the source of this reaction, and to see and understand what the real issue was and if there was some emotional wound that needed His balm of Truth for restoration. I realized that this incident triggered a long-standing perception of myself from early childhood that I am an outsider and not included. The LORD opened my mind to put together specific events from those early years, and to see how I still carried the past perception of myself in the present.
His answer to my prayers were assuring.
Ephesians 2:20-22 “Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth into an holy temple in the Lord: in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the spirit.” We are ‘fitly framed together’—we are closely joined and fitted together to be a habitation of God through the power of the holy Spirit.
The ability to get along with much or little, and ‘little’ can include the experience ‘feeling unappreciated,’ is stated in Philippians 4:12-13 “I am ready for anything through the strength of the one who lives thin me.” (Phillips) Part of the strengthening power of Christ helps us to redefine the perception of not being appreciated. In the illustration of the body, some parts of the body are closely associated, others are not. Each part of the body has a specific function, and no one of us is everything to everyone. Yet there is a collective need for each part. 1 Corinthians 12:14-21 We are not close in the same degree with everyone. We are not the same strong encouragement to each one. Just because a Brother or Sister in Christ is not encouraged by the way we seek to inspire and encourage is not a statement of rejection. It is a statement of diversity in Christ.
“My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.” Psalm 62:5 What happens when we wait in silence before Him, knowing that our true hope and expectation is not what we say, and not what we interpret the past to say, but what he says? We can hear HIS voice:
Know how deeply We love you. 1 Peter 5:7;
Know you are a part of Our Plan. You fit into the place we have created for you. Ephesians 2:10
Know that your experience with faulty perceptions of yourself makes it possible for you to understand others who feel isolated, (2 Corinthians 1:4) and that My work in you gives you the ability to bless others with similar experiences. Psalm 40:1-3
