#615 Resolutely Going Forward
What a blessing to let the stress of the day in which we are living direct our minds to the stress of Jesus last days, and how he “resolutely set his face to go to Jerusalem” and all that awaited him there. Luke 9:51
“I gave my back to those who strike me, and my cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover my face from humiliation and spitting. For the Lord GOD helps me, therefore, I am not disgraced; therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.”
Isaiah 50:6-7 We see clearly where the strength of his resolution came from: the joy set before him. Hebrews 12:2-3 The joy of knowing the Father’s faithfulness—to help and surround him with strength and protection of heart; the joy of being humiliated and insulted and the strength to trust the reality of his relationship with the Father and not to let the insults of others and the appearance of guilt and shame define who he truly was; the joy of knowing that in eternity he would be the means of blessing for his followers and for all our weary human family, understood and honored for glorifying the name of his Father, and thus able to glorify His name for eternity.
Our ability to set our face like a flint comes from considering him, knowing that the same privilege is set before us, to know the Father’s faithfulness, to claim His surrounding help and protection of heart, to know who we truly are in Christ and not let the accusation and negativity of others or ourselves define us, to know the present and the eternal blessings that will follow.
John 12:27-28 Now my soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour, Father, glorify Thy name…
Jesus did not wish away the cup that was poured for Him. His focus was “Father glorify Thy name.”
It was the joy that was set before him that empowered him to endure the cross, and to “despise (make little) the shame”—put the shame in perspective instead of making it his focus .
And to think, we have the SAME JOY set before us! The honor of glorifying the name of the Father, of being in perfect fellowship with Him, and the joy of blessing one another now and all our weary human family when the time is right for it. Ephesians 1:8-10 Weymouth
Every challenge is an opportunity and privilege to glorify the Father and the Son, our Precious Savior. We don’t want to wish away an ‘hour’s’ worth of experience (and this lifetime is less than an hour compared to eternity!) for an eternity of Blessing that will bring us to face to face fellowship and awe in Their Presence, and for our part in The Ministry of Blessing that with our Lord Jesus will bless and heal our weary human “families of the earth”.
Let us set our face like a flint to face whatever it is that awaits us in the Cup poured by our Heavenly Father. We go forward with our Precious Savior at our side.
“Arise, let us go hence.”
