The ‘debris’ and ‘disorder’ in our lives is simply and profoundly the carpentry of the Resurrected Jesus.
Therefore we can respect the temporary chaos.
#287 Resurrection Legacy
Peter bent over at the entrance of the tomb and peered in. The body was gone. All that remained were the strips of burial linen. John 20:3-9 He felt a surge of hope and joy run through his being. The angel told Mary, “Go, tell my disciples and Peter, he has risen.” Peter’s confusion and shame began to melt into hope that is born of faith. Though his understanding of Scripture was not yet complete, Peter knew that his Master was alive. ‘He is risen. Christ is risen, and he has sent me a message of encouragement through the angel…’ Mark 16:7
As the days passed by Peter began to recall the events of that resurrection morning in their fullest import. He remembered that the cloth that covered Jesus head was “rolled up in a place by itself.” John 20:7 It was folded up in the same way a carpenter folds his cloth when his project is done. (From The Carpenters Cloth by Sigmund Brouwer) He realized that Jesus work as a man was not destroyed, but rather completed. Now it was time for the resurrected Jesus to begin a new phase of spiritual carpentry. He would build a Church. He would build strength in the hearts that doubted him. He prayed for Peter and now was the time for his prayer to be answered.
“I have prayed that your faith will not fail. And when you have returned to me, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:32
Even the unstable heart of Peter would become strong like a rock.
And He is able and willing to exercise all power in heaven and earth to work his carpentry and his healing in each of our lives. Matthew 28:18-20
“Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Let us therefore celebrate the Feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” 1 Corinthians 5:7-8
“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-2
And then follows another building project. The resurrected Christ will make this Holy Temple of God a place of prayer for all peoples. Isaiah 56:6, 7-8 “Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, they will raise up the former devastations, and they will repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations,” the work of those blessed by the Anointed One, who in turn are anointed by the Holy spirit to bless others in this life and then in glory. Isaiah 61:1-3, 4
The darkest moments in the history of man will be swallowed up by the love and triumph of the Resurrected Christ.
Therefore we can respect the temporary chaos.
