#270 Seeking the Face of God and Christ
“For God, who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6
It is the creative power of God that said “let there be light” in our hearts. Genesis 1:1 We are given the bright truth of the glory of God as it is revealed in the face of the fathomless love of Christ. When we are in darkness of great challenge, we can call upon this light.
You are surrounded by a sea of problems, but you are face to face with me, your peace. Sarah Young
Our feelings say, Panic! Or Take charge! Or Run away!
And Jesus says, keep your eyes on my face and trust, and you will walk over this tumultuous challenge. Matthew 14:28-29
“Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me. When You did say, ‘Seek my face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.’” Psalm 27:8 In order to seek someone’s face we must go to where they are. In order to seek the face of God we need to be in His presence. Whenever we face someone it is for the purpose of communication of some kind. In this case we ‘travel’ to the vast domain of the heavenlies in thought and prayer. In order to seek the presence of God and Christ we invite them into our awareness with prayer and praise. We cannot seek their face and hide or run away.
We cannot SEE their faces if we are distracted. We cannot see their faces if we are hiding. Like Peter we can be in the presence of Christ amidst the challenges and forget that he is there with us, keeping us afloat and stable. As stated Psalm 27:8, we can speak to the Lord with all the affection and intention of our hearts, and even aloud, in a whisper if need be (because we are at work or in public): Your face, O LORD, I am seeking.”
FEELING, FAITH, FACT
"Three men were walking on a wall,
Feeling, Faith, and Fact.
When Feeling got an awful fall,
And Faith was taken back.
So close was Faith to Feeling,
He stumbled and fell too,
But Fact remained,
And pulled Faith back,
And Faith brought Feeling too." (Thank you Rosalie!)
A sister shared that “when I “feel” very down I just…verbally SAY, “Thank you, Father.” I might not feel thankful—but it points and starts me in the right direction so that Faith can pull me up—by gradually recalling the Facts from the Scriptures and from past Ebenezer Experiences. “ (Thank you Rebecca!)
So guess which is more effective spiritually: to seek our feelings or to seek the foundation of Holy Fact which supports faith— the face of God and Christ?
“O give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the people.
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels, and the judgments uttered by His mouth…”
