#591 Setting our Face Like Flint
“Feet grow weary; trials and testings abound; therefore we need to ‘gird up the loins of our mind’ and looking to our great Exemplar for the needed inspiration and strength, to set our faces like a flint for the home stretch.” R5651
Paraphrase of Isaiah 50:7, with lessons from the privilege of following our Precious Savior in his last days of extreme testing:
For the Lord GOD surrounds me with protection and help and because of this I will not be disgraced—#3637 figuratively wounded, insulted.
Because Jesus trusted in the surrounding protection and help of the Father he was able to set aside the insulting words and actions of others and define himself by the Father’s perspective. We need to also set aside the sometimes insulting and faulty words of our own thinking or the words and opinions of others and trust His view of us in Christ, destroying every reasoning and every idea that has been elevated in our minds contrary to the truth of God, taking every thought captive to the attentive hearkening of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5) O LORD, we pray to think with the mind of Christ! Philippians 2:3-15, Romans 12:2
Because of His surrounding protection and help I have set my face like a flint--
I will go forward into the extremity of any circumstance with strong determination--
fixing our eyes on Jesus and thinking as he did when feelings and appearance contradict the fact of Your faithfulness, despising or making little the shame or challenge, rivetted on the joy set before us. Hebrews 12:2
And I know I will not be ashamed—disappointed.
He will fulfil His purpose and His promises on my behalf, all to His glory. The joy set before us will become a reality. Philippians 1:6
O LORD, we want to set our face like flint, our heart’s determination rock-strong to bring You glory come what may.
“My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.” Psalm 119:112 NIV
