#528 Setting our Minds for Surrender Each Morning Psalm 5.3
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Psalm 5:3
I was comforted (again!) by these words and the practical message of total surrender as the priority of each new day when a number of intense issues came up at work first thing in the morning. My thoughts naturally tended to focus on the problem the possible outcomes and then fear of those outcomes, but He refocused my attention on the privilege of surrender to a Covenant Keeping God that I can fully trust with all things.
In the morning will I DIRECT my prayer unto Thee
The same word is used in Genesis 22:9. “…Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in ORDER--#186: set in a row, that is arrange, put in order—and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.” Perhaps Psalm 5:3 carries a similar thought with the phrase ‘in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee…” and alludes to our privilege of ‘setting the wood down, ready for the sacrifice and giving of the day.
In the morning O Lord you hear my voice, you hear my prayer.
In the morning I lay the wood before you, preparing for whatever You would have me lay on the altar in this new day.
And will look up
And then, like Abraham (Genesis 22:13) I will look up, and wait in expectation to see what You will provide. Psalm 5.3
In the morning of this new day, facing these new challenges, I know You hear me.
“What shall I render unto the Lord” this day, for all that You have done?
And HOW shall it be rendered?
I place the wood in order upon the altar—I set my mind for surrender, to give as You request.
I am willing to offer what is most precious to me, my Isaac so to speak.
You will provide.
I will offer according to Your will and Your provision.
I can do all things—whatever Your will directs me to do-- through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13
