#257 Some of Peters Advice for Relationships in these Last Days
Peter’s words speak to our hearts especially when challenges arise with our relationships in Christ.
“The end of all things is at hand; therefore be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.” controlled so that you can pray.” 1 Peter 4.7
The end of all thing—the goal, ultimate result—of all things is at near; therefore be sober—to be of a sound mind, ie sane; and watch—abstain from wine, to be discreet—careful and circumspect in speech and actions FOR THE PURPOSE OR PRAYER:
We need to be clear minded and balanced in thinking to see the needs and issues to pray for. We need to be self controlled in order to take the time to pray and careful and circumspect to watch for the answers.
”Beloved, let us war a good warfare against the world, the flesh and the devil, seeking and finding, daily and hourly, fresh supplies of grace; for every day and every hour is a time of need if we are but awake to realize it..... Let our lives be a daily and hourly struggle to overcome.... to war a good warfare to the end.” R 1859
”Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
Above all—the priority is—to have fervent (1618 ektence, fm 1537 to extend or stretch) LOVE—agape—committed love, among ourselves. This committed love extends and stretches us to reach out to one another in every conflict and trial because agape love covers a multitude of sins. We are each in need of mercy and patience in our continual challenges. We have many opportunities to have our hearts stretched by love to be patient and to be a prayer support for one another!
“Be hospitable to one another without complaint.” 1 Peter 4:9
Use hospitality—to be fond of guests—welcoming those with needs into our hearts and homes willingly and wholeheartedly, without grudging or grumbling or complaint.
“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10
We each have something to give, and in this time in which we live this gift may refer to a talent. His Grace is bountifully given to us as Brethren, with variety and in unique ways. What a privilege to use our God given and directed abilities and opportunities to minister—be an attendant, to wait on one another—as good stewards of the many faceted contribution and blessing He has created for each of us to fulfill.
If you speak, may your words represent the heart of God;
If you minister or serve and attend, do it out of the ability—forcefulness—that God gives you, not from your own strength,
that God may be glorified in ALL THINGS, through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 4:11
