#431 Strongholds 2Corinthians 10.4
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations… “ (reasonings).
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
Stronghold #3794 to fortify; a castle (figuratively, argument)
We have ‘strongholds’ of thought, patterns of old thinking and reaction that are fortified and strong. They have a “strong hold” upon our lives.
YET: “The LORD is my light and my salvation—The LORD is the stronghold (#4581 a fortified place, a defense) of my life—of whom shall I be afraid…” Psalm 26:1
Sometimes we ‘take refuge’ in our own limited perceptions and fears…not a very effective refuge!!!
O may we take refuge in You, O LORD, as the STRONGHOLD of our lives.
The strongholds of our old thinking do have a strong hold on us.
We get attached to them. These thoughts often create pain, but we can get attached to our pain. Sometimes we want to be the one that is right, and we have the desire to prove that others are wrong. Sometimes there is a comfort in feeling sorry for ourselves—there is a familiarity and comfort in thinking the old thoughts.
We need identify the stronghold of the pattern of thinking, and surrender it to God.
“Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against God,
bringing every thought into the captivity of Christ.” 2 Cor 10:5
Pray to know: What imagination do I need to let go of?
What is the cost of holding onto this way of thinking?
Pray to see: What is YOUR perspective and Truth?
“Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear, though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.” Psalm 26:3
Though circumstance loom large and may seem threatening confidence overcomes fear
because the LORD is the stronghold of my life! (Psalm 26:1 again!)
Our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus also have a strong hold—on us! John 10:29 and
Philippians 3:12 “…I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.”
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds, casting down imaginations… “ (reasonings).
