#627 The Answer to Anxiety Part 1
In the midst of some experiences at work in which I had extremely strong opinions, I was insisting on my way in my mind and through my words. And then I read this quote:
“The answer to anxiety is not control, but surrender to our Sovereign God.” Max Lacado
I never realized before that my default reaction when I get worried is control, but it is. There are many forms of control and I pray for the LORD to open my eyes regarding the ways I control.
“Many of us hold onto control for dear life. We attach ourselves to outcomes, push for things to happen the way we want them to go, and try to run the show.” L Stahl
The idea of intervening with the control cycle by surrendering to our Sovereign God has been very helpful to me.
1 Peter 5.6-7 “Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and He will exalt you in due time;
Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.”
There is a relationship between humbling ourselves before God and the ability to cast our care and anxiety to His care.
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God:
We make the choice to humble ourselves when we focus on our littleness before His Amazing Breadth of Character and Creativity;
When we see our Littleness and yet our Preciousness to Him:
Our one life amid the lives of Billions, and yet He knows our every thought (Psalm 139:1-6); He responds to our needs (Philippians 4:19); He loves us with Chased Covenant Love and Affection (Isaiah 54:10).
Under the influence of this humility we can surrender to His Mighty Power in all permits and overrules in life,
Casting all your anxiety on Him.
Part of the ability to THROW your anxiety into His realm of power is the amount of effort we spend in asserting His Greatness and His Sovereignty.
The effort we spend in asserting His greatness and His Sovereignty can happen when we DWELL in Awe for Who He is.
Because He cares for You:
Again, our one life amid the lives of Billions, and yet He knows your every thought;
He responds to our needs; He loves us with an everlasting love.
