#595 The Blessing of Over-and-Over-Testings
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4
We are counselled to consider the many experiences that test our faith as “all joy” or “pure joy” knowing that the experiences that test our faith work out patience—(Strong’s #5291) cheerful endurance…
I was not being very joyful about some of my testings. It was seeming to me like it was one thing after another, and I felt more worn out than anything. Meditating on these verses helped me gain a focus and understanding that has helped tremendously.
When we can’t see or understand, when it seems overwhelming, when experiences seem to come to us one after another, over and over, how does this result in cheerful endurance?
Each experience, over and over, gives us the opportunity to experience our relationship with our Father and our Precious Savior, over and over. As we claim Who They are in order to get through the challenge, we prove again and again Their Faithfulness. As we truly experience this relationship, over and over, we learn to trust Them more and more. Over and over They prove their Love and Their Wisdom.
This is the cheerful endurance that is developed over time:
We experience the joy of trusting Them more and more, and the joy and privilege of experiencing the depths of Their love and patience, over and over.
The endurance is cheerful because the over and over challenges and the continual strength and help we receive teach us to focus on the Joy of our continual relationship of Their Faithfulness!
The endurance is cheerful because it focuses on the Joy of being guided continually by the Wisdom that does not err and the Love that never fails!
Without over and over challenge and testing, we would miss the joy of over and over Provision and Help, and the Joy of seeing again and again Their absolute Faithfulness which results in endurance that is joyful in that Faithfulness. And after enough over and over challenges the work of cheerful endurance and full assurance of Their Faithfulness will be crystallized in our character, creating faithfulness and maturity in Christ.
