#670 The Choice to Rejoice
Habakkuk records the alarm he felt when the trouble coming upon Judah was revealed to him.
“I trembled where I stood.”
And then he makes the most amazing statement of faith:
“YET I wait calmly for the day of distress, for a people to come to attack us.” Habakkuk 3:16 Tanakh
He describes a time of trouble and famine Habakkuk 3:17. He steels his soul by faith to accept the difficulty of the coming times:
“YET I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18
He knew the ultimate purpose of the trouble was the deliverance of Judah. We see an even greater picture of deliverance: The rulership of Satan, the ‘head of the house’ of this present evil world, will come to an end. “In indignation Thou didst march through the earth; In anger Thou dist trample the nations. Thou didst go forth for the salvation of Thy people, for the salvation of Thine anointed. Thou didst strike the head of the house of the evil to lay him open from thigh to neck.” Habakkuk 3:12-13 The LORD will deliver both spiritual and natural Israel, and finally our whole human family through the trouble of our day.
Applying Habakkuk’s attitude to our own challenges
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3.18
YET—regardless of the circumstances, even in times of great challenge, verse 17,
I WILL rejoice—I have strong determination and I will choose to have an attitude of joy and praise;
in the LORD—in the God who keeps His promises;
I WILL joy in the God of my salvation--
We are to take this personally! HE is the God of MY salvation;
Our choice to rejoice is possible because HE has the power and the determination to use every circumstance
for “my” deliverance—personally for each of His people, as well as the deliverance and healing for our whole human family!
We have the Choice to Rejoice!
What glory to His name and what blessing comes to us when we make this Choice to Rejoice!
"Any thought which...deprives us of the joy we should ever be having in Him is a poison for which praise of Jehovah for all of His goodness to usward is the best antidote."
