#510 The Cup that Crystallizes Part 3
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV
How can we apply this example of Jesus?
For the joy set before him: in the midst of the challenge we remember the joy. Imagine the end result of being face to face with the Father, and with our Beloved Bridegroom; imagine the joy of the ministry we will share with Jesus of blessing all our human family. Imagine the joy of glorifying the Father and the Son in perfection! We also declare with him: As a result of the wholehearted effort of our spiritual life, we will see it—the fruitage and we will be satisfied and full of joy, and that joy is also part of our present inheritance. Isaiah 53:11
He endured or remained on the Cross: We accept the Cup. So often we just want the experience to be over. So often we resist the experience. We resist what is happening, we resist what might happen. The turmoil we feel is often a sign of resistance. But Jesus remained on the Cross. He remained in the will of the Father. We see His example of willingness to drink the Cup poured out for him and we claim his determination and purpose which remained strong. We also declare with him: “What shall I render unto the LORD for all His benefits [Including the joy set before us!]. I WILL TAKE, or lift, as in acceptance and the choice to drink, the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the LORD.” Psalm 116:12-13
He disesteemed the shame:
He put the shame into perspective. We can pray the challenge down to size, a momentary and light challenge that produces an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. 2 Corinthians 4:17 We also declare with him: For the LORD God helps me, and therefore I am not disgraced and I will not take on circumstantial labels of failure and the accusation of the Accuser. The Lord GOD helps me, therefore I have set my determination to drink this Cup out of faith and love for Him, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. Isaiah 50:7
