The Demise of the Protestant

The Demise of the Protestant
I had a theory, and so I took a poll on Yahoo and asked three basic questions.
1) What denomination are you?
2) What is a Protestant?
3) Are you a Protestant?
Well apparently there is a new denomination called Jesus out there. There was a couple from that denomination. Then I was getting answers like,
2. A Christian who does not follow the catholic faith.
2. Protestantism was the reformation of Christianity due to Luther's thesis.
2-them old folks from the 1500s who fought with catlicks over books
2. Any one of a number of non-Roman Catholic Christian denominations and non-denominations
2) Religious denominations that broke away from the Catholic church and, more or less, followed the teachings of Luther......
2 - Over-simply: a member of any Christian sect that came into existence during or after the Protestant Reformation
2) I don't care
2.A Bible believer. We don't believe in any other books or pamphlets. No traditions.
2) A protestant is a person who adheres to one of the many factions of the church that sprang up in protest against the RC church (and continue to be birthed of those factions and their offspring).
The one from the denomination of the one hundred dollar bill understood the word as I did.
2) Someone who protests against something
The Christadelphian also got it right.
2.I would define a Protestant as someone who protests against the wrong use of the word of God in the Scriptures and/or who, in the first place, wished to read the Bible in their own language for themselves but who was not allowed to do so by the Roman Catholic Church.
Another gave all three dictionary definitions, and then it struck me. No wonder no one knows what Protestant means, the Dictionaries can’t even get it right. Well they do, but you have to scroll way down.
Origin:
1530-40; < German or French, for Latin prōtestantēs, plural of present participle of prōtestārī to bear public witness. See protest, -ant
Then for the third question I got answers like this, and I will limit it to those who were not atheists or Catholics.
3- no as I was never a part of the catholic assembly
3-no (He is from the Jesus denomination and had the comment about the catlicks)
3. By the definition in #2, yes. (That is they were not Catholic)
3) No. I am a restorer, not a reformer. I go back to the first century, to the Scriptures and worship God the way He commanded.
3 – Yes
3-I am not protestant but might be considered by some, depends on how you view definition of the word. (from a JW)
3) I don't care
3) I don't care
3) No, not really. I/we just follow Jesus.
3. I am a Protestant.
I will probably pick the Christadelphian as best answer unless I get a better one.
As I finished writing this, another answer popped up on my computer and it was very interesting and telling.
1) I am of the denomination of Jesus Christ who was and is and is to come. I stand upon the Rock who is the way, the truth, and my life. I love the Lord my God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. He is everything to me.
2) I do not know what a Protestant is, but I am encouraged to find out, thanks to you.
3) I have to find out what a Protestant is before I can answer you honestly. brb
I looked it up, something about a protest against the Catholic church, where people made "denominations" from there, I think. I don't really care. Just a bunch of man made garbage if you ask me. Jesus is the only Way to the Father- period. The Living Word. If people stayed in the Word which is Truth and Jesus Himself they wouldn't drift off in the first place struggling over their own "faiths". Only One faith saves- that is in Christ alone.
God bless you.
With the dictionary definitions as they are, it is no wonder followers of Jesus have absolutely no idea what it means to be a Protestant, and many don’t even claim that title. Protestant isn’t a denomination it is a political statement.
I proudly proclaim that name. I am a Protestant! And I do protest, against wrongs in my own fellowship as well as the Catholic Church as my faithful brethren of the past did.
I own, Peter Waldo, Arius, John Huss, John Wycliffe, the Waldenses, the Albingensese, the Heugonots, Ridley, Latimer, Tyndale, Bunyan, Foxe, Luther and all the rest of my brethren who stood up for what they believed till their last breath.
As I believe the Catholic Church is the Antichrist and will once again come back into persecuting power, I studied some of the reformers to see what made them so strong. How were they able to sing hymns like Paul when imprisoned or being burned at the stake? What gave them the courage to draw the line in the sand. “Here I stand, I can do nothing else.”
Today, when we have a mild confrontation we feel tightness in our heart as I am convinced that most people hate confrontation. Yet these great brethren lived it every day. Back then to be a Protestant meant you were willing to die for your beliefs, because surely as the Catholic Church found out, if by torture or intimidation they could not get you to recant, they killed you slowly.
The Prophet Daniel and the Book of Revelation talk about how this system sought to “wear out the saints”. With an inquisition that lasted a thousand years, it was nothing short of a divine miracle that True Christianity survived. Certainly it was not in Satan’s designs.
There will come a time again, when those who desire to be true to the Lord will be tested severely to prove their faith as well as their love. That time is near at hand. It will separate the wheat (the true followers) from the tares (the fakers).
The Catholic Church is maneuvering the nations and peoples like a professional chessman. They are setting up strategies and circumstances so that when all nations are desperate, they can swoop in like a savior. They have done this before. How do you think Pagan Roman Empire, became the Holy Roman Empire? They have history on their side, and guess what? They know it.
So-called Protestants don’t know their history, or as one stated; “I don’t’ care”. Well there will come a time when they should, but even then, they probably won’t, it will be all about going with the flow and keeping under the radar.
If we are not protesting now, whether it be against immorality in our midst, against false doctrines, against the Antichrist, then we won’t do it when it really counts. When it comes time for the True followers of Jesus to proclaim God’s Word and shout, “Come out of her my people!”. We won’t do it and will be held responsible for his people not getting the message.
God will give the blessing to another, but that doesn’t relieve us of our duty and responsibility. We will miss out on the blessings to follow, because we were not faithful.
The Reformers of the Dark Ages were strong and faithful because they loved the Lord more than themselves. They could lay down their lives for their beliefs because, betraying God and Jesus were out of the question.
We need to get to the point where we will not hear of such things either.
