#707 The Determination To Do His Will
“For the Lord GOD helps me, therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” Isaiah 5:7 For the LORD God helps me: Psalm 16 prophetically records Jesus request for the help of the Father and the statement of help received, including the Father’s final act of Resurrection.
He Lord God helps me: “Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in Thee.” Psalm 16:1
“The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot.” Psalm 16:5
The Father held fast and protected the inheritance He had chosen for His Son.
“I will bless the LORD who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.” Psalm 16:7 In the night of challenge and testing the will and the strength to carry out that will was revealed to him by the Father. “I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him; with a long life I will satisfy him, and let him behold my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 The crowning help was the resurrection of Jesus. “For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay.” Psalm 16:10 Divine help is also our continual resource. Hebrews 4:12
Therefore, I have set my face like flint: “I have set the LORD continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8 Jesus focus on his delight and love for the Father and the Father’s purpose and the desire to glorify His name was his constant priority and therefore was his constant source of the stability and unshaken determination to fulfill His will. Luke 9:51 He chose determination to the glory of the Father. May we exercise the same choice of determination, strengthened by the holy Spirit and our deep love and focus on our Precious Savior’s example. Hebrews 12:3
And I know I shall not be ashamed. “He who vindicates me is near; who will contend with me? Let us stand up to each other; who has a case against me? Let him draw near to me.” This reminds me of David running toward Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:48 Jesus resolutely approached each experience through His confidence in the Father. “Behold, the Lord God helps me; who is he who condemns me? Behold they will all wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them.” Jesus knew that any victory of the powers of darkness was temporary. Jesus knew that shaming accusations and perspective would be replaced by all people knowing the truth. (Psalm 22:25-31; Jeremiah 31:33-34) He also had the strength to not define himself by circumstance and the view of others. “For the joy set before him he endured the cross despising the shame”—making the shame a little thing. Hebrews 12:2 Like our Precious Savior, may we define ourselves through the eyes of the Father, (Ephesians 2:10) knowing His Truth will triumph in us (Jude 24-25) and in all our human family through the Ministry in glory. (Romans 8:17-21 Revelation 21:2-5)
“Because the Sovereign LORD helps me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore I have set my face like a stone,
Determined to do his will.
And I know that I will not be put to shame.” NLT
