#574 The Joy of His Love Empowering us to Love Part 2
It helps to pray to see the ‘irritation’ through the eyes of love. When faced with what I label as ‘irritating’ it helps to focus on what I can appreciate in the person, and to pray for their blessing.
This helps to create another label: Opportunity to help this person feel welcome, Opportunity to support, Opportunity to be blessed by them, etc. And it helps to speak the truth in love. Ephesians 4:15 Sometimes there are things necessary to be said in honesty, but they can be said with a loving and respectful intent and tone. (And we must also practice speaking the truth and being honest with ourselves in love.)
“…Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Let Christ be your example as to what your attitude should be…” “LIKE JESUS who stripped himself of all privilege by consenting to be a slave by nature and being born as a mortal man. And, having become man, he humbled himself by living a life of utter obedience, even to the extent of dying…even death on a cross.”
Philippians 2:2-8 NASB / Phillips
“And love of the brethren....means love for all....if some have peculiarities of natural development and disposition, which are discordant to our ideas and sentiments, nevertheless, we will love and cherish them, and cheerfully serve them....as we discover our own natural crooks and twists, which are contrary to the law of love, will seek to get rid of these imperfections of the flesh as rapidly as possible, and to make them as little obtrusive and offensive to others as possible.” R 2330
Thank you Sister Betty!
“It’s the little things that make love stay.
A smile, a kind and friendly tone,
A twinkling eye can make love stay.
It’s the little things that make love go
A scornful eye can make love go. ,
A frown, a harsh misspoken word.
If you would not send love away,
Remember from the dawn of day,
It’s the little things that make love stay.”
What a joy it is to find the little and the big things that “make love stay!”—to look for little things to do and say—a note, a flower, a scripture verse, a visit, a surprise batch of cookies, a surprise bowl of fruit…J
What a joy to allow Their love to empower us to love as They love.
