#395 The Keeping Power of the Father and the Son Part 2
Here is another example of this keeping power exercised with the intention of creating intimate unity between us as Brethren. John 17:11, 12
He guards and protects us through empowering us to love one another, a love that would empower us to be his heart, his hands, his feet, to one another.
Jesus gently explained to his disciples that they would experience a temporary separation from his presence. “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now. Where I am going, you cannot come.” John 13:33
Then he gave them a mindset that would help get them through this absence. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34 This love committed to the highest spiritual welfare of their Brethren would create a bond of oneness that would refresh and encourage them in dark times. “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Jesus then prophesied of a time when all people would know and appreciate the love and commitment of this spiritual Brotherhood. 1 Peter 2:12
“This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13 Lay down means to place in passive posture. We open our hearts to express love in the way the Father chooses, regardless of the cost, just as Jesus did for us.
This is often what gets us through the dark times.
O what a privilege to be the love of our Precious Savior to one another.
