#279 The Love of God in Christ
Romans 5.8 Part 1
There were a number of discussions that took place amongst the disciples during the Last Supper. One was in regard to whom among them would do such a thing as betray the Son of Man. Luke 22:22-23 Another was “a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.”Luke 22:24 Jesus answer was “let him who is the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as the servant.” Jesus personified that ‘greatness’ of humble service in John 13.1-20 when during the supper he washed his disciple’s feet. This act is introduced by the statement that Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own which were in the world he loved them to the end. John 13:1
The pure love of Jesus was poured out as he poured the water into basins to wash their feet. The pure love of Jesus was always in response to the leadings of the Father. “The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to listen as a disciple.” Isaiah 50:4 The Father poured out the Cup and Jesus poured out his love and surrendered to every spirit led opportunity. How perfectly his pouring out of love conformed to the need of his disciples in this instance as in every other time he came in contact with both the human and spiritual needs of human beings. From the most menial, to the everyday responses, to the humiliation and anguish of persecution and the death of the cross, he poured out his love according to the will of the Father. “The Lord GOD has opened my ear; and I was not disobedient, nor did I turn back…” Isaiah 50:5 How perfectly his love-sacrifice conformed to the need of all mankind for a Savior to deliver us all from what we could never do ourselves, to accomplish the deliverance from the bondage of sin and death. Romans 5:6
O Lord, we want to love every person in our lives with Your love as demonstrated through the depths of love in the sacrifice of Christ. Lead us to make time for loved ones and for people in our lives, according to Your leading and will. Awaken our ears every morning so that our words will sustain the weary. Open our ears to Your will for loving and giving to others, and give us strength to obey and never turn back.
