#507 The Yoke that Gives Us Rest Matthew 11.28-29
We can sense the voice of Jesus, speaking to us in this verse:
“Come to me, all of you labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
When you are burdened, tired from working so hard, and heavy laden, overburdened, so you need to Come to me—refocus and renew your fellowship with me.
“Take my yoke upon you and learn of me”
My yoke, my attitude of service is the attitude of “I delight to do Thy will, O my God,”—I delight in what You, my Heavenly Father, are accomplishing.
“Learn of me” and learn from me
When Jesus says “Learn of me” he is inviting us to look back on his example as our Precious Savior pouring out his life during his earthly ministry according to the will of his Father.
“For I am meek and lowly of heart”
The word meek and its association with the world humble in Vines. Through the definitions given there we can sense the message of Jesus to us behind these words. Because I am meek and lowly in heart I accept all the Father permits as good, without resistance, not raising my own reasoning or preference against the Father wisdom.
This is such a reminder to delight in HIS purpose and intention through every experience. We don’t have to like the experience, but if we get caught up in focusing on what we don’t like in the experience, or what we fear in it, there is so little room to learn; it gets in the way of focus on Jesus .
“And you shall find rest unto your souls”
With this re-focus we can delight in what He is fulfilling in our heart and life. And this will lead us to accept all that the Father permits as good, without resistance, not raising our own reasoning or preference against His Fatherly Wisdom. As we trust Their purpose and intention through every experience, we are able to DELIGHT in the will of the Father and the inspiring example of our Precious Savior. And in that attitude of deep love and appreciation for Their work in us, we are at peace, we are at rest and we are refreshed.
