#537 We Will Continue to Praise Him in the Midst Every Circumstance
Psalm 42:5 Part 1
“Why are you in despair O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence (countenance).” Psalm 42:5
We learn much from David’s example when was exiled from his beloved land during the rebellion of Absalom. He calls to mind his connection with the land of the Jordan and the mountains of Hermon. He remembered the sound of the waters, as he figuratively felt the Jordan rapids--their breakers and waves roll over him. Psalm 42:6-7 He felt overwhelmed with longing to return to Jerusalem. Psalm 42:1-4 Yet, by faith he identified the overwhelm as “all THY breakers and THY waves have rolled over me.”
He recognized that even this overwhelm of experience was from God.
Why are you in despair O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? From David’s example we learn to bring our feelings of depression (despair) and our disturbance--‘great commotion’ of thought and feeling to HIM. Feelings that come and go do not represent HIS stable truth.
Hope in God: The Truth is that we need to hope—be patient and trust in God.
For I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence:
We need to determine that we will AGAIN—repeatedly, and still praise Him because His help and deliverance is sure.
The help of His Presence—Countenance:
This help, deliverance and victory comes from His countenance, His face turned toward us. His eye is upon us. Psalm 32:8 He is lovingly attentive to our every need, and He is willing and able to provide for every need according to the riches of His unfathomable love and wisdom and power exercised through Christ. Philippians 4:19
“The LORD WILL command His lovingkindness in the daytime;
And His song WILL be with me in the night, a prayer to the God of my life.” Psalm 42:8
