#502 WE will get through this! Psalm 18:29
We have recently had some very challenging situations in our family business. Some of these issues are very hard on my husband, and so it is heavy on my heart, on top of some of my own concerns, and other concerns. So I had been praying praying praying. And He answered answered answered!
The LORD directed me to Psalm 18:29 “By Thee I can run upon a troop, [a crowd, esp of soldiers] and by my God have I leaped over a wall.” And my husband made a statement: WE will get through this! The message is simple and powerful:
With THEIR help WE can deal with and triumph in Christ over any obstacle!
The problem is, we get stuck looking at the wall. We may be obsessed by how high it is. We may analyze, count and study the stones in the wall. If we are faced with a troop, with a multitude issues or people that present challenge, we calculate how hard it would be to find a way through the crowd, or we label going forward as impossible because there are just too many things to deal with. This focus will leave us intimidated and fearful.
The antidote for fear that comes from over- focus on the troop and the wall is to fully focus on Him and Who He is in the moment, a “very present help in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1) and to focus on the fact that His intention and plan for us is IN PROCESS for our highest blessing. (Jeremiah 29:11)
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 unlocks an antidote. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (NIV) “These little troubles (which are really so transitory) are winning for us a permanent, glorious and solid reward out of all proportion to our pain.” (Phillips) “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” NIV
We experience His intention of spiritual growth and renewal. And we realize these challenges in perspective according to eternal values BECAUSE we fix our eyes on what is Unseen—especially in the times when His purpose and resolution is hidden. The problem is obvious—it looms before us as big as life. But He is Unseen, and bigger and more powerful than any problem. Our challenge is not to let the problem be more real than His power and love.
His love and power are the most relevant truth in any challenge.
Romans 8:30 “If God be for us, who can be against us?” We know the Mighty God is for us—and so we know that no person or circumstance has the power to be against us and to create defeat.
Circumstances can create challenge but not defeat!
2 Corinthians 4:17 And so we look at, and consider things that are unseen, beyond the circumstance and beyond our own natural perceptions. One meaning of the word “look “(#4648) is to take aim at. We can’t hit the target if we do not look and focus on the goal. To aim requires triumph over distraction.
We must not let what we see in our circumstances and conflicts distract us from His invisible Mighty power at work on our behalf! WE will get through this!
